Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool is interested in signing Ajax defender Jorrel Hato in the summer.
Hato’s name became popular among Liverpool fans at the end of January after the defender was spotted at Anfield during Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town.
The picture of him in the Main Stand raised hopes that the Reds wanted to get him before the end of the winter transfer window.
But the 19-year-old later revealed he was invited to the match by his friend and Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and was not there because of an imminent move to the club.
However, it appears he could be returning to Anfield very soon as a player, with reports from credible sources linking him with a move to Liverpool now abundant.
Earlier on Tuesday, reliable journalist Paul Joyce revealed that Arne Slot’s side were indeed interested in Hato.
Writing for the Times, the Merseyside reporter asserted:
“Succession planning is required at left-back given Andrew Robertson turns 31 next month, and Kostas Tsimikas is not a long-term solution?
Liverpool have been studying options such as Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and Ajax’s Jorrel Hato, among others.”
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the report and added that the Reds are already making plans to visit the Netherlands in the coming weeks to watch the player.
Speaking in the latest edition of the Here We Go Podcast on Youtube, Romano stated that “Liverpool are already planning with their scouting department for at least two or three more missions in the Netherlands to follow Hato.”
